To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you in regards to
the degree courses in Character Animation held at The Animation Workshop in
Viborg. I have submitted the necessary portfolio requirements which can be
found right here
, with each category stated in the navigation bar.
The reason why I chose to apply
at the Character Animation section is that I’ve been dreaming of creating
animations ever since I was little but lacked technological equipment and
guidance. I enjoy creating characters and illustrating the different and
diverse emotions they go through in the stories I create around them, which is
why I believe that the Character Animation courses would suit me. I wish to
expand my skills and knowledge in animation and I am very enthusiastic about
learning to do what I’ve dreamed of doing.
I’ve been drawing ever since the age
of 4 and the level of my current skills are mostly the result of self training.
I took some life drawing courses in the summer of 2012 at the university of
arts in Bucharest in order to practice human anatomy and proportions. I have a
bit of experience in using flash as an animation software program, as well as
doing frame by frame animation. I have also had some experience with Adobe
After Effects 5, as well as the 3D modelling software Blender. I am a beginner
within all the earlier mentioned software programs. The knowledge I have in
this area was acquired thanks to my curiosity and desire to see my characters come
to life.
Since drawing is my oldest and
biggest passion, using animation as a method to bring to life the universes I
have created is what would motivate me to follow the courses in Character
Animation. I dream of creating my very own animation movies and shows as well
as sharing my passion for animation with other people. I consider myself to be
a creative and devoted person.
Naturally, the Disney movies were the first to
drag me in the world of animated movies, one of my favourite movies being
„Mulan” and „Tarzan”. The second big inspiration was the 1984 animated TV show
„Heathcliff and The
Catillac Cats” , a universe for which I have created my own feline
characters. Other sources from which I get my inspiration are the mythology,
Norse mythology in particular, rock music and everyday life.
Among other animated works I enjoyed very much
are the „Shrek” trilogy and „The Road to El Dorado”, both productions of
Dreamworks. These are one of the few that provided me with inspiration for my
very own stories. I mostly took great pleasure in the comical part of these
shows, as well as the more dramatic scenes where the main protagonists are
facing obstacles. As far as games go, „Assassin’s Creed II” is the one which I
enjoyed the most to play. I truly enjoyed the storyline and the character’s
evolution throughout the gameplay.
In the matter of my traveling experiences, I’ve been abroad on a
school study trip in England when I was in the 6th grade for 10 days. While
this may not be very relevant to the program I am applying, my travel to
England has however affected me because it made me acknowledge the possibility
of studying abroad for a longer period of time. Another travelling experience
is the one I am going through right now, as I am currently living in Denmark,
Aarhus.
I am aware of the fact that there is a monthly
fee for this study program and I am planning to finance this with the money I
will gather over the summer through a job, as well as with the financial help
of my parents.
Taking into consideration the above mentioned
facts, I believe to be fit for the Character Animation degree courses held at
your university as I am passionate about drawing and creating stories and
characters. I am willing to work and develop my skills in an intensive learning
environment. I hope I will hear from you soon and should you have any inquiries
about my admission please contact me using the information at the top of
this letter.
Best regards,
Marina Iulia Doholici
